The first decade of the 21^st Century saw drought conditions prevail across Victoria and both Geelong, Bellarine and Melbourne were subjected to harsh water restrictions for lawns and gardens. This necessitated a radical change in the grass species that Anco’s operation grew. Instead of the cool season grasses such as Tall Fescue, Bluegrass and Ryegrass, the warm season and drought tolerant varieties of Soft Leaf Buffalo, Couchgrass and Kikuyu became the staple of our production and sales. Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula are covered in these grasses that were grown at Torquay.

The Torquay farm turf is grown using recycled water from the Black Rock treatment plant along with captured rainwater runoff. No potable water is used in irrigation during the turf production process.

We employ over 30 staff on a permanent basis. Several of the staff are long serving qualified members of the greater turf industry and their overall knowledge of all things turf is astounding.
